Course Description

The video course presents a broad overview of the issues that affect the lives of people with developmental disabilities. This introductory course provides an opportunity for students to better understand the unique challenges of individuals with developmental disabilities as well as to learn about the ways in which support services adapt to meet these challenges. The course utilizes a life span approach to increase awareness and sensitivity about the variety of issues an individual with a developmental disability and their family may encounter. Wisconsin is recognized as a leader in the country for quality of services designed to support people with developmental disabilities in educational, residential, vocational, and social settings. This course offers the student opportunities to hear from leaders in the field of developmental disabilities. The lecture sessions also include the contributions of people with developmental disabilities, their families, friends, and service providers. The text for this course is an electronic reader.
