Issues in Developmental Disabilities

The broad course goal is to provide a base of knowledge with an awareness and sensitivity about people with developmental disabilities across the life span. Some of the course tenants will be to identify the people who comprise the community identified as developmentally disabled and the issues that affect their lives, their families, and caregivers. Another tenant will be an opportunity to better understand the unique day to day challenges people with developmental disabilities experience. Also we hope to acknowledge the service delivery systems and the organizational structure of the various supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities. And lastly, we intend to explore the values and philosophies which address the quality of life, supports, and services to this population.
